Clan is one hundred and four cast plaster faces of people within my community reach. I created a narrow hall that I could just walk through, with the faces hung at my viewing height, reasserting my body into the work.
The casting process is an intimate affair. With a cold alginate spread over your eyes and mouth you need to trust the caster to ensure you can breathe. After the initial shock, it quickly becomes a relaxing process as I pat away placing plaster bandages to support the minty alginate layer.
Collaborative moment with a gift exchange. Sometimes making the work creates the work.
